A field app for 1,000+ restoration crew members across 150+ locations

The Challenge

CRDN restores properties damaged by water, fire and other disasters across 150+ locations in the US, Canada and Europe. Its field crews photograph each property and its contents, before and after restoration, as proof for the owner’s insurance claim. That’s 70 to 150 photos per property.

Crews did this in a PowerApps app on iPads. As use grew, it struggled: offline work and data sync produced errors, some records never reached the server, and crashes were increasing. New features were hard to build in PowerApps, and the app felt like a series of online forms rather than a tool built for crews in the field.

What We Built

We studied the existing app, interviewed CRDN’s team, and designed a new UI around how crews actually document a site: property, then room, then item, with as few taps as possible and the active jobs always at the top.

CRDN FSA is a native-feeling iPad app, published on the App Store, that works with CRDN’s existing APIs. Data is stored on the device and synced when a connection is available, so crews can keep working with no signal. The first release shipped in about four months. We added more features through 2023, then handed the app over to CRDN’s in-house team.
