Patient Tracking Portal Development Modernized Clinician Services and Grew Revenue

Company Background

IPC Healthcare (now Team Health) is a healthcare company providing physician services. IPC Healthcare supplied physician services to hospitals and nursing homes, as well as services for assisted living, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, and pediatrics.

With the acquisition of IPC Healthcare, TeamHealth is now a leading clinician organization with an established network of more than 20,000 affiliated physicians and advanced practice clinicians.

Challenge

As part of the services offered to patients, IPC Healthcare had a legacy patient tracker system. This system was outdated, did not have all the needed functionality and experienced regular performance and maintenance issues.

IPC Healthcare wanted to update this critical system as well as ensure it was accessible to multiple care coordinators across multiple geographic locations. They also wanted this to integrate into their newly purchased billing system. They needed an experienced technology partner to help them make this project a reality.

We can now run a multitude of reports from this system, giving us tracking dating back to 2003. It’s been great to be able to pull up the history on a specific patient.

Solution

The engagement started with SharpQuest getting a deep understanding of IPC Healthcare’s business and how the current application functioned. Amy Hillock, Director of Operations for IPC Healthcare described the beginnings,
“SharpQuest came into our office for about six months and watched what our care coordinators did and updated the
system the way we needed it.”

SharpQuest developed a new web application to track their patients, contacts and doctor’s schedule and visit notes. They added functionality for reporting and appointment scheduling. Hillock noted how critical these additions were, “We can now run a multitude of reports from this system, giving us tracking dating back to 2003. It’s been great to be able to pull up the history on a specific patient.”

When it came to project management, Hillock gave SharpQuest high marks, “I give them an A+. Anything we request from them they get back to us right away. They’re always willing to do the work as fast as we want it done. They’re phenomenal to work with.”

Outcomes

The new application has been a critical improvement for the productivity of IPC Healthcare’s clinicians and coordinators. And the software has been flawless in performance as Hillock stated, “We can access the software from anywhere. We’ve never had any major issues with the software. If we have minor issues, the problems are fixed quickly.” SharpQuest developed with application performance in mind and the new application has 99.99% uptime in production.

The value of the application to IPC Healthcare goes far beyond productivity. Hillock says it is priceless, “The amount of data that we can pull from the software, we can’t put a price on it. We are able to market and track our patients for the new bundled payment program. The value we get from the product is huge. There is no other product like it on the market.”

When asked what about SharpQuest impressed IPC Healthcare, Hillock answered, “The main thing is they don’t try to turn it into something they think will work better. They give suggestions but they know that we know what we’re talking about. If there’s something we don’t like about how something comes out after development, we let them know and they change it.”
